Undoolya Stadium – Indoor Courts, Netball NT

Undoolya Stadium – Indoor Courts, Netball NT

Services Provided: Mechanical / Electrical / Fire Protection / Hydraulics

The project provided the only dedicated indoor netball facility in the Territory capable of holding national titles and ANZ Championship teams as well as the local teams and the Alice Springs Masters Games. The facility is an enclosed four-court netball stadium constructed to National Netball Standards complete with competition level lighting and timber sprung floor.

BCA Engineers were engaged to provide engineering solutions for the site infrastructure and building services which included site electrical distribution, site hydrant systems incorporating fire water assembly to local authority (NTFRS) requirements.

Energy efficiency of such a large facility in operation is paramount for the ongoing viability of the centre. BCA Engineers provided the following initiatives to be implemented in the facility:

  • Court lighting provided by high output LED fixtures with intelligent control systems to allow each luminaire to be individually controlled and dimmed to the user requirements. This allows pre-set lighting modes for many and varied potential uses for the space. Manual override options allow users to modify lighting to specific levels.
  • Air conditioning and ventilation for such a large volume space was provided with multiple options to allow flexibility in operation. Natural ventilation can be provided by automated louvers in the building facade, large format sweep fans (1 per court) and air conditioning by commercial evaporative coolers to assist on sweltering central Australia days.

All solutions were carefully designed with functionality, maintainability and safe access in mind.

Burnside Swimming Centre – City of Burnside, SA

Burnside Swimming Centre – City of Burnside, SA

Services Provided: Mechanical / Electrical / Fire Protection / Hydraulics

Project Value: $5.3m

The proposal for the Burnside Swimming Centre included significant upgrades to the main building, new aquatic operations pool plant and equipment, new aquatic play space and wading pool, and improvements to recreational spaces and landscape.

BCA Engineers designed and documented modifications to the existing infrastructure and plant, and provided detailed technical documentation for the proposed state of the art pool filtration system and associated replacement plant.

As the City of Burnside had a strict community consultation process, it was imperative for the design team to produce comprehensive documentation in several different stages and on schedule.  BCA Engineers adhered to the project program, consulted with the Council representatives to provide the requested technical information for consultation, and successfully achieved all the key project objectives for our client.

The project was considered an intensive building services project, making up a high component of the project total budget.
